“A FEAST OF THE ARTS” FINE ART AUCTION
On Saturday, May 3, 2008, the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and Highlands will hold its third biennial Art Auction, “A Feast of the Arts.” This event continues its tradition of bringing together local artists, collectors & patrons of the arts for an evening of food, art and fun at Union Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall, 44 Balmville Road in Newburgh, NY.
The evening begins at 3pm with an art preview and tapas dinner, prepared by award-winning local chefs Bruce Middleton and Dan Brown. Auctioneer James Cox of the James Cox Gallery at Woodstock, local art dealer and appraiser, will begin the live auction at 5pm. All three are generously donating their time and talent to make the evening a cultural and culinary success!
The auction will feature over 130 pieces of original art created by local artists, many featuring local subject matter. The festive evening will also include drawings for a variety of valuable door prizes donated by the community.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, which has as its mission to preserve, promote and protect Newburgh’s rich history, architecture and culture through programs, events and tours. The Society’s stewardship of the Crawford House preserves this unique architectural and historical gem for all of Newburgh and the Hudson Valley to explore and enjoy.
The Historical Society will open the doors of the Crawford House for her 2008 Season on Sunday, April 6th, with an opening reception and an early peek at the art from 1pm-5pm. Bids may be left at this time. The Crawford House is open to the public Sundays from 1pm-4pm, during which time there will be an ongoing preview of the auction in our Stone Floor Gallery.
Tickets for the auction are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. For tickets and information call 845-561-2585 or email historicalsocietynb@yahoo.com. Payment is by cash, check or credit card.
